Re-Launching our Integrated Drought Management online course: Monitoring and Early Warning

We are excited to announce the third relaunch of the highly successful Integrated Drought Management: Monitoring and Early Warningonline and free course in English and French. 

Droughts have significant impacts on societies, ecosystems, and economies. With climate change increasing the frequency and severity of droughts, a proactive approach is critical. This free online course, developed by the Integrated Drought Management Programme (IDMP) in collaboration with Cap-Net, UNEP-DHI, the World Meteorological Organization, the Global Water Partnership, and the Volta Flood and Drought Management project, provides an introduction to integrated drought management.

The course focuses on the three pillars of drought management:

  1. Monitoring and Early Warning
  2. Vulnerability and Impact Assessment
  3. Preparedness, Mitigation, and Response

Course Modules:
The course is divided into four comprehensive modules:

  • Module 1: Drought concepts and risk management approaches
  • Module 2: Introduction to drought indices and indicators
  • Module 3: Selecting regionally relevant indices and indicators
  • Module 4: Practical application of drought monitoring and forecasting tools

Each module includes practical tools, case studies, and real-world applications to help participants develop skills in drought monitoring, forecasting, and impact assessment.

Who Can Join?
This course is open to professionals from various fields, including climate experts, water resource managers, policymakers, and anyone involved in drought management. No prior knowledge is required, and gender balance is encouraged.
